Chi & Co in Pollokshields, Glasgow is the new home of the Chi Yoga Centre which opened in Glasgow in 2000. Chi & Co. brings together a broad range of ideas and life-skills to help you create a healthy mind, body and spirit.

From the ancient arts of Yoga and Tai Chi to modern gravity Vibe Plate Studio, we are offering informative and exciting educational experiences to enhance your life. Pilates matt Classes, pilates reformer, ,Personal Fitness Training and Teacher training for professionals are also available here. We have regular workshops held by renowned leaders.

Chi and Co is an independent teaching environment. Our ethos of a seasonal changing environment is present in all of our teaching styles (Energy in Season) we believe that the energy of the time of year should reflect in our whole centre, we hold classes of all standards from beginning to fitness professional can become involved with a tailor made process or simply drop in for a class.

Chi&Co also has a small shop, Yoga Mats,Yoga Books,DVD’s, Yoga Clothing and a small selection of health related products with items of interest collected from world travels !

The centre is owned by Julie Hanson who has more than 30 years experience in the health industry, and is co-author with Sue Woodd of the book “energy in season” five keys to vitality

Yoga for Men

Yes, that’s right fellas, you no longer need to concern yourself with the svelte, bendy woman on the mat next to you, as this yoga class is for men only. Whether it be to stretch off the stresses and strains of a hard day at the office, or to loosen the muscles after some strenuous physical exercise, you will find that this flow of hatha yoga postures will not only alleviate the stress on a physical level but also mentally. This class will not only help to improve your flexibility, stamina and posture but will also aid emotional stress, improving clarity of thought and mind.

Seasonal Flow Yoga

Seasonal flow yoga: a potent fusion of three spiritual traditions that has been expertly and organically created into an exciting modern day yoga practice that allows us to re-discover the forgotten truth about living in harmony with nature. For each Season, particular energies are dominant and particular organs are at their most active. the seasonal flow class will bring attention to these energies and organs by moving with their needs , the end result is a feeling of balance and re energised harmony .

Pilates – For Everyone

Pilates is a form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1930’s. This emphasises the balance between core strength and flexibility, focusing on the the main middle section of the body, toning pilates is a modification on the key pilates exercises and developed to work towards achieving a safe and challenging progression to a higher level. This allows the participant the see the results of reaching a newly toned body shape. The class consists of a warm up and them ,mainly floor work exercises that are carried out at each individual’s own level, aiming to progress to a more advanced level. Areas that are targeted are the middle section of the body (the core), which consists of the abdominals, the legs and the buttocks. This also helps whilst maintaining and building the upper body area, giving the client a total workout.

ai Chi / Tai Ji

Living Tao 5-Elements Tai Ji and Chi Kung Tai Ji and Chi Kung are ancient Chinese healing, meditational and martial arts that can maintain health and a sense of well being The movements help to focus, collect and quieten the mind. Both work within the person’s physical limitations to increase and expand movement, balance and experience. They both help with circulation and relaxation, strengthening physical power and flexibility without stress. The teaching includes the Living Tao 5-elements foundation and five circle forms and philosophy. The Chi Kung teaching includes White Crane, Sky Fisherman, Dragon Series and 5-element Yin/Yang Series.

Mummy and Me

This class is designed to get mum back into shape after having her baby. Mums and babies can start class from 6 weeks after birth and once they have had their Midwife/Doctors check. The class involves gentle exercises focusing on strengthening the abdominal, pelvic floor area and releasing tension in the shoulders and spine mixed together with some simple baby yoga and some infant massage. This encourages early bonding and a feeling of security and wellbeing for both mum and baby. The sessions finish of with relaxation and a cup of tea and a chance for chat. At any point during class you are free to walk about, change or feed your baby. What to bring Just bring a blanket for your baby to lie. The studio has plenty of mats and cushions for your comfort. Class size is limited so booking is essential!

Pre Natal Yoga

This class is suitable from 13 weeks. The class is designed to help improve circulation, exercise spine, aid digestion and increase overall comfort. Yoga can also help to alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as sciatica, back pain and swelling. The peaceful environment will leave you feeling calm and rejuvenated.

Ashtanga Yoga

is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronising the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind .
the classes at Chi & co are taught by Maureen Thorpe every tuesday and Thursday morning 7.30 am , for beginners and Cathy Moran every saturday morning 10.30 for the experienced .

Absolute beginner yoga

as it says Yoga for those who have no prior experience of Yoga . You will be taken through a series of postures . A Basic Yoga Session includes opening poses, standing poses, salutations, shoulder and hip exercises, back and forward bends, inversions, twists, and finishing poses. taught over several weeks and will reflect the standard of people attending the class . its the way to begin your journey !

Hatha yoga

The word hatha comes from combining the two Sanskrit terms “ha” meaning sun and “tha” meaning moon. The word “ha” refers to the solar nadi (pingala) in the subtle body and “tha” the lunar channel (ida). However, when the two components of the word are placed together, “hatha” means “forceful”, implying that powerful work must be done to purify the body. This class will be quite powerful although it will be taught for the standard of students there on the day ,expect to sweat and in the longer term this class will help you create balance and greater power in an individual.
